The "Röllakan" weaving technique is used for both tapestries and floor mats and a classic example of Swedish folk art. On the dark brown/black base, the octagonal medallions with animal symbols is a geometry frequently used in Röllakan to anchor central figures. Stylized tulips/flowers and the tree of life are also common to this flat-weave technique. The mustard yellow border features a zigzag pattern to frame the central field. This beautiful piece has most likely been hanging on a wall. The warp is of linen (you can see the age with its fine threads) and the weft in wool. In very good condition, some wear showing on the warp and a few small stains (see last two photos). The measures are 48.5" long (123cm) and 24.5" wide (62cm).
